Our Toxic World
Every day, every American suffers a constant bombardment of toxins from the air, water, plastics, cosmetics, cleaners, food, furniture, building materials, and more! We are all living in the most toxic environment that has ever existed. Many people are unaware of the level of exposure and are unconcerned about the potential harmful effects. However, ignorance is not bliss. These toxic exposures will have their say when it comes to your health, whether you are aware or not.
What is a toxin? According to the Global Healing Center, “exogenous toxins consist of poisons or pollutants introduced into the body through air, food, water, or other outside elements. Endogenous toxins consist of by-products that originate inside the body. An example could be the hormones produced in excess when you are under stress. Under normal conditions, these hormones operate in a healthy manner, but when stress becomes chronic, the excess cortisol can cause health issues and can become toxic.” (1)
Toxic Accumulation
Imagine a typical day for the average American. You sleep on a mattress coated in flame-retardant chemicals, emitting formaldehyde. You drink tap water containing fluoride and other toxic substances from a plastic cup containing phthalates and BPA. You use lotions, shampoos, deodorants, and toothpaste loaded with toxic chemicals. You put your clothes on the largest organ in your body (your skin) washed in toxic detergents. You eat cereal loaded with sugar, additives, preservatives, colorings, and glyphosate from a bowl cleaned with toxic dishwasher detergent. You pack a lunch with deli meat containing nitrates, hormones, and antibiotics.
All of these exposures occur within the first hour of the day. Unfortunately, this only accumulates throughout the day and is compounded 365 days a year.
Think of your body as a large bucket. Accumulating toxins drip by drip over time. You may seem fine while the bucket is filling up, but as soon as the bucket is full and the next drop lands, the bucket overflows, and the symptoms begin. This phenomenon is quite common. Unfortunately, the influence of toxins on one’s health is too easily overlooked. Therefore, avoiding toxic exposures as much as possible is vital while applying the 5 Essentials® of MaxLiving to ensure your body functions optimally.
Can Chiropractic Help You Detoxify?
Chiropractic seeks optimal function, and toxins can undoubtedly interfere with your body’s ability to function at its highest level. D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, described the 3 T’s, trauma, thoughts, and toxins as the causes of subluxations (misalignments of the spine.). In this day and age, toxins are at a critical level, impacting the spine and nervous system like never before.
In addition, toxins can cause spinal misalignments. According to David Gustitus, D.C., “…apart from direct force causing a bone to misalign, the body can be affected by chemical exposure and emotional stresses in such a way as to cause subluxations. The nervous system perceives these non-physical stressors to be threatening and directs the muscles to react, defend, and brace the body, holding bones in positions that can cause asymmetry and imbalance in the spine.” (2)
Since your nervous system controls everything in your body, it stands to reason that when you remove interference, your organs will function better. For example, your kidney can filter toxins more effectively. Your liver can break down and clear toxins more efficiently. Your lungs can expel toxins more readily. Your lymphatic system can carry toxins out of your body more adequately.
When you get adjusted, built-up toxins can be released as a result. Therefore, your body’s natural detoxification pathways must be functioning correctly. That is also where the 5 Essentials come in. Your nervous, immune, endocrine and detoxification systems need to be supported by eating healthy food to get the proper nutrients, exercising to provide necessary oxygen, avoiding toxins, and having a positive mindset and stress response.
7 Ways to Keep Your Body Free of Toxins:
Get chiropractic adjustments: Adjustments can release toxins, return you to your parasympathetic/ rest and digest state, and get you out of your sympathetic/ fight or flight state.
Avoid toxins: This is always the first step, as it is imperative to stop the toxic onslaught.
Eat clean: Following the MaxLiving Nutrition Plans intrinsically avoids toxins from food.
Drink plenty of clean water: Water helps flush toxins out of your body, but it must be pure water free of toxins.
Use a detoxification product for the safe removal of toxins: MaxLiving’s Detox System and MaxCleanse are safe and effective for supporting your body’s natural detoxification abilities.
Maintain a healthy weight: Toxins are fat-soluble and easily stored in fat cells. Once this happens, it is much harder to remove them, and it can exacerbate weight loss resistance.
Exercise: Exercise induces sweating and heavy breathing, which help rid your body of harmful toxins. Try MaxLiving’s MaxT3 exercise program at www.maxt3.com.
