In South America, an evergreen tree grows that produces rose-colored flowers called Pau D’arco. This tree’s bark has been used for hundreds of years by native tribes to kill off bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Recently this super bark has been studied and has shown many more favorable benefits.
Within each cell, a structure known as mitochondria produces all body energy as adenosine triphosphate (ATP). A cofactor in ATP production is Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), and research has pointed towards a reduction of NAD+ being a mechanism behind aging and disease due to the cause of mitochondrial dysfunction. Interestingly, one of Pau D’arco is beta-lapachone, which is a powerful catalyst for NAD+ production. People have been spending thousands of dollars on supplements that raise NAD+ ratios, but Pau D’arco is a natural solution that costs about $4.00 an ounce and has many other health benefits.
